The meaning

What Ansar means in Islam

The word means the helpers. They were the two tribes of Aws and Khazraj, long at war until Islam reconciled them. The Prophet paired each emigrant with a host in a formal bond of brotherhood, and the Qur'an says they preferred others over themselves even while in need. He told them that love of the Ansar is a mark of faith and dislike of them a mark of hypocrisy, and he died and was buried among them.
