١ · Terms of use

Reading here

By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

NOOR is a free educational library about Islam: its history, scripture, figures and practice. It is offered as a work of service. You may read, share links, and quote reasonable excerpts with attribution to noorcodex.com. You may not scrape the site wholesale, republish entire rooms as your own, use the site to spread hatred or sectarian attack, or attempt to break, overload or probe its systems.

Religious content. The Codex presents mainstream Sunni scholarship with respect for legitimate difference. Nothing on this site is a fatwa or a personal religious ruling. For decisions in your own life (marriage, divorce, inheritance, medicine, money) consult a qualified scholar or imam who can hear your full situation.

No accounts, all ages. The site has no user accounts and is written to be safe for families. The Kids rooms are for children to read with their guardians; we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone, child or adult.

We may update the site and these terms at any time; the "last updated" date above changes when we do. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.

٢ · Privacy

What we know about you: almost nothing

No trackers, no ad cookies, no profiles. The Codex does not run advertising trackers, does not set cookies for readers, does not fingerprint you, and does not sell or share personal data with anyone. This is a promise of the house, not a legal minimum.

Region detection happens on your device. To show at most one local Guardian line, your browser checks its own timezone and language settings locally. That check never leaves your device. The page then asks our server only "which lamps are lit this week", a question that contains nothing about you.

Aggregate counts. We may use privacy-preserving, cookie-free visit counting (such as Vercel Analytics) to know how many readers the Codex serves. It counts visits, not people.

The Lantern. Questions you type to the Lantern are sent to our server and passed to an AI provider once, to generate the answer, then the conversation lives only in your own browser tab and is gone when you close it. We do not build profiles from questions. Please do not type personal identifying details into the Lantern; it does not need them to help you.

Payments. Guardian payments are processed entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never touch our servers. We see what Stripe shows any merchant: the sponsor's name, email, chosen region and payment status, and we use it only to run the sponsorship.

Email. If you write to us, we use your address to reply. Nothing else.

For any privacy question or request (including deletion of anything you believe we hold), write to hello@noorcodex.com.

٣ · The Lantern

An AI guide, honestly labeled

The Lantern is an artificial intelligence. It is instructed to answer from the Qur'an and authenticated hadith, to admit uncertainty, and to refuse to give personal rulings. Even so, AI systems can be wrong, incomplete, or miss context, and the Lantern's words are not the words of a scholar, of NOOR, or of Islam itself.

٤ · Gifts

Donations, plainly

The Codex accepts voluntary gifts (sadaqa) from readers to keep the library free, ad-free and tracker-free. A gift is support of the work; it buys no goods, no services, no influence over content, and no recognition unless we choose to give it.

٥ · Guardian terms

The sponsorship covenant

A Guardianship is a paid weekly sponsorship: one sponsor per region at a time, shown as a single line of honor to readers in that region. By becoming a Guardian you agree to all of the following.

٧ · Sources & credits

Whose light we carry

The Arabic text of the Qur'an is the eternal speech of Allah and is presented from the standard Uthmani text. Translations and recitations reach this site through public scholarly services, with gratitude:

Original writing, design and illumination of the Codex are © NOOR Codex of Light. If you are a rights holder and believe something here is miscredited or should be removed, write to hello@noorcodex.com and we will act quickly and respectfully.

٨ · Disclaimers

The limits of the lamp

The Codex is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted availability. External services (text, audio, payments, AI) can fail outside our control.

Content on health, history and practice is educational. It is not medical advice, not legal advice, not financial advice, and not a substitute for qualified professionals, religious or worldly.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NOOR and its founder are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding three months, which for readers is nothing, because the Codex is free.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Disputes belong to the courts of Ontario, after a sincere attempt to resolve things by correspondence first.
