The meaning
What Sahabah means in Islam
The singular is sahabi. That definition is Ibn Hajar's, and it is deliberately wide, so a child lifted up to see him once counts alongside Abu Bakr. At the Farewell Pilgrimage the number present is traditionally given as more than a hundred thousand. Sunni scholarship holds them collectively upright in transmission, which is why hadith critics examine the chain from the generation after them onwards.
