The meaning
What Akhirah means in Islam
The Qur'an pairs it constantly with the dunya, the near life, and says the hereafter is better and more lasting (Qur'an 87:17). Belief in it is one of the six articles of faith. It is not an escape from this world; the same Qur'an teaches the believer to ask for good in both.
