The meaning
What Jahannam means in Islam
The Qur'an gives it names and levels and says the Fire was prepared for those who reject faith (Qur'an 2:24). Sunni belief holds that believers who enter it for their sins do not remain in it, and are brought out by mercy and intercession, while disbelief carried to the grave meets a lasting punishment. The verses are not decoration, and they are also not an invitation to guess who is going there.
