Mus'ab ibn Umayr
Makkah's perfumed aristocrat who traded everything, taught Madinah, and died holding the flag.
The account
The most pampered youth of Makkah, his mother's wealth dressed him in the finest cloth, until Islam cost him all of it. Sent after the First Aqabah as the first teacher-ambassador to Yathrib, his gentle recitation opened house after house, and chiefs like Sa'd ibn Mu'adh entered Islam at his hands, a city converted by one man's adab before any army existed. He carried the banner at Badr and at Uhud, where both his arms were cut holding it before he fell. At his burial there was only one small cloak: cover the head and it left the feet bare; cover the feet and it left the head bare; so the Prophet ﷺ ordered his head covered and grass laid upon his feet.
