The meaning
What Shahadah means in Islam
It is the first of the five pillars and the door into Islam: whoever says it, understanding and meaning it, is a Muslim. It has two halves, which is why it is often called the shahadatain, the two testimonies. The first half empties the heart of every other object of worship; the second names the one man whose example shows how that worship is done. It is not a formula that works by sound. The scholars set conditions for it, among them knowledge of what it means, certainty rather than doubt, sincerity, truthfulness, love, acceptance and acting on it.
