The meaning

What Nifaq means in Islam

The Qur'an gives the munafiqun a surah of their own and says the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth of the Fire (Qur'an 4:145). Scholars distinguish nifaq of belief, which is disbelief in disguise, from nifaq of conduct: the well known signs of lying, breaking a promise, and betraying a trust, reported in Bukhari and Muslim. The second kind was taught as a mirror for the believer to check himself, not as a label to hand to others.
