The meaning
What Shaytan means in Islam
The Qur'an says he is an enemy to you, so take him as an enemy (Qur'an 35:6), and gives him only two tools, whispering and inviting. He cannot compel anyone; on the Day of Judgement he tells his own followers that he had no authority over them except that he called and they answered (Qur'an 14:22). The Qur'an also calls some human beings shayatin, so the word is not limited to jinn.
