The meaning
What Ihram means in Islam
The root means to make something forbidden, because entering it makes ordinary permissible things off limits. Men wear two unsewn white cloths; women wear ordinary modest clothing with the face and hands uncovered, and there is no special ihram dress for them. The common misunderstanding is that the towels are the ihram; they are not, and a person who has made the intention is in ihram whatever they happen to be wearing.
