The meaning
What Salat al-Eid means in Islam
It is prayed in the mid-morning, in congregation, without adhan or iqamah, and the number of added takbirs differs by school. Rulings on it differ too: Hanafis call it wajib, Hanbalis a communal obligation, Shafi'is and Malikis a confirmed sunnah. Praying it in an open space rather than inside the mosque is the older practice.
