The meaning
What Qalam means in Islam
Allah swears by the pen and by what they write (Qur'an 68:1). A hadith in the collections of Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi reports that the first thing Allah created was the Pen, and He said to it write, and it wrote what would be until the Hour. The image is not ink and paper but a matter already settled, which is why the Prophet peace be upon him told Ibn Abbas that the pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.
