The meaning

What Kiraman Katibin means in Islam

The Qur'an says over you are keepers, noble writers, who know what you do (Qur'an 82:10-12), and that not a word is uttered without a watcher ready beside him (Qur'an 50:18). The names Raqib and Atid come from reading two words of that verse as names rather than as descriptions. What they write becomes the record handed to each person on the Day of Judgement, a book that leaves out nothing small or large (Qur'an 18:49). The verses were given to produce attention rather than dread.
