The meaning
What Jama'ah means in Islam
The Prophet said congregational prayer surpasses praying alone by twenty seven degrees. Two people are enough to form a jama'ah. The schools differ on how binding it is for men: Hanbalis hold it individually obligatory, Shafi'is a communal obligation, and Hanafis and Malikis a confirmed sunnah. Someone who joins late catches up alone after the imam finishes.
