The meaning

What Qunut means in Islam

The word means devout standing. The schools place it differently: Hanafis say it in witr all year, Shafi'is in the dawn prayer and in witr in the second half of Ramadan, Malikis in the dawn prayer, and Hanbalis in witr. Most also recognise qunut an-nazilah, a supplication added during public calamity. Its wording is not fixed, so a person may ask in their own words.
