The meaning
What Suhur means in Islam
The name comes from sahar, the last darkness before dawn. The Prophet said to eat it because there is blessing in it, and encouraged delaying it until close to the dawn. It is a sunnah rather than a condition, so a fast is still valid if a person sleeps through it.
