The meaning
What Iblis means in Islam
The Qur'an tells the scene several times and states plainly that he was of the jinn, and so he departed from the command of his Lord (Qur'an 18:50). He asked for time until the Day they are raised and was given it. Iblis is his name, while shaytan describes what he became, and what his followers among jinn and men are called.
