The meaning
What Qarin means in Islam
The Prophet peace be upon him said that every one of you has a companion from the jinn and a companion from the angels, in a report in Sahih Muslim, and said that his own had submitted so that it only urged him toward good. The Qur'an uses the same word for a companion who speaks up on the Day of Judgement (Qur'an 50:23-27). It is not a double of you, a shadow self, or a source of information about your life, and most of the popular material about it goes far beyond anything the texts say.
