The meaning
What Hurub ar-Riddah means in Islam
Some tribes rejected Islam outright, some followed men claiming prophethood such as Musaylimah, and some kept the prayer but refused to pay zakat to Madinah. Abu Bakr insisted on all of it, saying he would fight anyone who separated what the Prophet had joined, and Umar, who had hesitated, came to agree. The heaviest battle was Yamamah, where so many memorisers of the Qur'an were killed that Umar urged Abu Bakr to have it collected in one written copy.
