The meaning
What Hudaybiyah means in Islam
The Prophet set out for umrah and was stopped short of Makkah. The terms felt humiliating: go home this year, ten years of truce, and hand back anyone who comes to you from Quraysh, and Umar objected openly. Under a tree there the Companions pledged not to flee, the pledge the Qur'an calls Ridwan, and Surah al-Fath then called the treaty a clear victory. Peace let people hear the Qur'an without a war between them, and more entered Islam in those two years than in the nineteen before.
