Broke the Muslims at Uhud; then never lost a battle for Islam.
The account
The cavalry mind who saw the abandoned hill at Uhud and turned the day, against the Muslims. After Hudaybiyyah he weighed the road ahead and rode to Madinah; the Prophet ﷺ received him: "Praise be to Allah who has guided you, I always saw in you an intellect that I hoped would deliver you to good." He led a column at the Opening, took command at Mu'tah when three commanders fell, earning the name Sayfullah, the Drawn Sword of Allah, and later broke the ridda and opened Iraq and Sham at Yarmuk. Removed from command at his peak by Umar, he obeyed without a murmur, proof the sword had no ego. He died in his bed, grieving that a man of his scars should not die in battle: "There is no rest for the Sword of Allah but Jannah."
