The account
Hind bint Abi Umayyah, among the first emigrants to Abyssinia and then Madinah, widowed by the wounds of Uhud, then honored as a Mother of the Believers. Her fiqh entered history at Hudaybiyyah: when the companions, crushed by the treaty's terms, did not rise to the Prophet's ﷺ command to sacrifice and shave, he entered upon her in grief, and she counseled: go out, speak to no one, slaughter your own sacrifice and call your barber. He did; the camp leapt to follow; the crisis dissolved without a word of rebuke. Scholars count her counsel among the finest political judgments in the Seerah. She narrated hundreds of hadith and outlived nearly all the wives.
