The meaning

What Witr means in Islam

Witr means odd, as opposed to even. It is prayed any time after Isha until dawn, and the Prophet told his companions to make it the last prayer of their night. Hanafis classify it as wajib, close to obligatory; the other three schools call it a confirmed sunnah. Someone who intends to pray tahajjud usually delays witr until after it.
