The meaning

What Wahy means in Islam

The Qur'an describes exactly those three modes (Qur'an 42:51), and says the Prophet peace be upon him did not speak from desire, but that it was revelation revealed (Qur'an 53:3-4). Revelation of this kind came to prophets only, and it ended with the death of the last of them. Nothing after him, however sincere or however true it feels, carries the same authority. Where the Qur'an uses the same verb of the bee or of the mother of Musa, scholars read inspiration rather than prophecy.
