The meaning

What Tilawah means in Islam

The root carries the sense of following, one word behind another, which is why the term implies obedience as well as recitation. The Qur'an praises those who recite it as it deserves to be recited. In practice tilawah is done with wudu where possible, at a measured pace, opening with the isti'adhah.
