The meaning

What Hafiz (of the Qur'an) means in Islam

The plural is huffaz and the feminine is hafizah. In the hadith sciences the same title means a scholar who has memorised a vast number of narrations, so it is not always about the Qur'an. It is not a permanent state either: without revision it slips away, which is why huffaz keep reciting for life.
