What Kadhib means in Islam

The Prophet peace be upon him said truthfulness leads to righteousness and lying leads to wickedness, and a man keeps lying until he is written with Allah as a liar, in Bukhari and Muslim. He named lying among the signs of hypocrisy in conduct. Scholars allow a narrow room for concealment in order to reconcile people, to protect life, and between spouses, and even there the classical preference is to use words that are true but indirect.
