The meaning
What Ka'bah means in Islam
The name comes from a word for a cube. The Qur'an describes Ibrahim and Isma'il raising its foundations, and calls it the first house appointed for mankind. Quraysh rebuilt it during the Prophet's youth and he settled their quarrel over who would set the Black Stone by carrying it on a cloak they all lifted together. Muslims face it, they do not worship it; it is a direction, and Umar said plainly of the Black Stone that it is a stone which neither harms nor benefits.
