The meaning
What Qiblah means in Islam
For sixteen or seventeen months in Madinah the Muslims prayed towards Jerusalem, and in the second year after the hijrah the Qur'an turned them to the Sacred Mosque. Those far from Makkah are asked for the direction rather than a perfect line, and someone with no way of knowing prays towards their best judgement and the prayer counts. Mosques mark it with a niche called the mihrab.
