The meaning
What Jamarat means in Islam
They mark the places where Ibrahim is said to have driven away the whisperer as he went to fulfil his command. On the tenth only the largest, Jamrat al-Aqabah, is stoned with seven pebbles; on the following days all three are stoned in order. The pebbles are the size of a chickpea, and the act is a symbol of refusal, not an attack on a physical devil. Those unable to go may appoint someone to stone on their behalf.
