The meaning
What Arsh means in Islam
The Qur'an says His Throne was upon the water before the heavens and the earth were made (Qur'an 11:7), and describes angels carrying it and surrounding it with praise (Qur'an 40:7). Sunni scholars affirm it as a real created thing and warn against imagining that Allah needs it or is contained by it. The Prophet peace be upon him said that al-Firdaws, the highest part of Paradise, lies directly beneath it.
