The meaning

What Adab means in Islam

Where akhlaq names the character underneath, adab names the outward form it takes here and now, and most of it was taught by example. Classical scholars wrote whole books on it, such as al-Bukhari's al-Adab al-Mufrad. Some adab is fixed by the Sunnah, such as eating with the right hand, and some varies with place and custom, which is why a practice can be good manners in one country and odd in another.
