The meaning
What Umar ibn al-Khattab means in Islam
He had set out to kill the Prophet and accepted Islam on the road, after hearing Surah Ta Ha in his sister's house. As caliph for about ten years he took Syria, Egypt, Iraq and Persia, and built the machinery of a state: a treasury, a stipend register, provincial governors held to account, and the Hijri calendar. Several rulings were revealed in line with opinions he had voiced. He walked Madinah at night without guards, and was stabbed while leading fajr.
