The meaning

What Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz means in Islam

He ruled about two and a half years from the ninety ninth year of the Hijrah. He returned property his family had taken, stopped the cursing of Ali from the pulpits, lightened taxes on new Muslims, and lived so plainly that his own household noticed the change first. He is also the caliph who ordered hadith to be gathered and written down systematically, which is why so much survives. Many scholars call him the fifth of the rightly guided caliphs.
