The meaning
What Tashahhud means in Islam
The name comes from shahadah, testimony, because the words contain the declaration of faith. It is said in the sitting after the second rak'ah and again at the end of the prayer, where salawat on the Prophet is added before the closing salam. Several wordings are authentically reported, and mosques in different regions use different ones; all of them are sound.
