The meaning
What Qiyam means in Islam
Qiyam simply means standing. Standing is required in obligatory prayers for anyone able to do it; someone who cannot stand prays sitting, and someone who cannot sit prays lying down, with no loss of reward. The same word appears in qiyam al-layl, meaning standing in prayer through the night.
