The meaning
What Munkar means in Islam
The opposite is called ma'ruf, the known version. Definitions varied: earlier critics sometimes used munkar simply for a lone report from a weak narrator, with no contradiction involved. Note that munkar here is a technical grade for a report, unrelated to munkar meaning a wrong act, and unrelated to the angel of that name.
