The meaning
What Musnad means in Islam
As a grade, musnad usually means both connected and traced to the Prophet. As a book type, a musnad gathers everything narrated by each Companion under his name, which suits tracing a narrator but makes finding a topic awkward. The largest is the Musnad of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, which holds sound and weak material together and needs a critical edition to use well.
