The meaning
What Mawdu' means in Islam
The word means placed, or set down, as in something put there by a human hand. Fabrications were made for many motives: sectarian argument, storytelling, flattery of rulers, and misplaced zeal for encouraging worship. The Prophet's warning against deliberately lying about him is among the most widely transmitted reports in existence. Scholars wrote whole books listing fabrications so people could recognise them.
