The meaning
What Karamah means in Islam
Ahl al-Sunnah affirm karamat, pointing to Maryam finding provision out of season (Qur'an 3:37) and to the sleepers of the cave. The Mu'tazila denied them. Sunni scholars then set one plain rule: a person's uprightness on the Sunnah is the proof, not the wonder, so someone who breaks the sacred law while performing marvels is not a friend of Allah but a warning.
