The meaning
What Hadath means in Islam
Minor hadath comes from things like using the toilet or sleeping deeply, and is lifted by wudu. Major hadath comes from sexual discharge, menstruation and postnatal bleeding, and is lifted by ghusl. It is a legal state, not dirt: a person in hadath may be perfectly clean, and a person covered in mud may have valid wudu.
