The meaning

What Fidyah means in Islam

The Qur'an mentions it for those who can only fast with great hardship, which scholars apply to the very old and the chronically ill with no prospect of recovery. It is one meal or its value for each missed day, given to someone in need. Anyone who expects to recover owes qada instead, and should not pay fidyah to avoid fasting.
