What Du'a means in Islam

The Qur'an says call on Me and I will answer you (Qur'an 40:60), and the Prophet peace be upon him said du'a is worship itself, in Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi. Scholars describe three possible answers: the thing asked for, something equal or better kept back for later, or a harm turned away. He also warned against impatience, saying a servant is answered as long as he does not say I asked and was not answered, in Bukhari and Muslim.
