The meaning

What Waswasah means in Islam

The last surah of the Qur'an names the whisperer who whispers in the chests of people (Qur'an 114:4-5). The Prophet peace be upon him said Allah has pardoned this community for what their souls whisper as long as they do not act on it or speak it, in Bukhari and Muslim, and he taught that a person struck by doubts about creation should say I believe in Allah and move on. Distressing repetitive doubt about wudu, prayer or belief is a recognised condition, and treating it as a medical matter as well as a spiritual one is not a failure of faith.
