The meaning
What Qalb means in Islam
The Qur'an speaks of a sound heart brought to Allah (Qur'an 26:89), of hearts that are sealed, and of hearts covered by rust from what they earned (Qur'an 83:14). The Prophet peace be upon him said there is a morsel of flesh in the body which, if it is sound, makes the whole body sound, and it is the heart, in Bukhari and Muslim. Classical writers describe it in three states: sound, sick, and dead. This is why the science of the heart is treated as a discipline and not a mood.
