The meaning

What Walimah means in Islam

The Prophet told 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf to hold one even if only with a single sheep, and he taught that answering the invitation is a duty on those invited unless they have an excuse. Most scholars hold the walimah itself is a confirmed sunnah rather than obligatory. He also warned against a feast to which only the rich are invited and the poor are turned away, which is the part most often forgotten.
