The meaning

What Khul' means in Islam

Its basis is the Qur'anic statement that there is no blame on either of them in what she gives to be free, and the case of the wife of Thabit ibn Qays, who returned the garden he had given her. Scholars differ over whether the husband must agree or a judge may impose it, and over whether khul' counts as an irrevocable divorce or as an annulment, which changes the waiting period that follows. She does not need to prove wrongdoing to ask for it.
