The meaning
What Tabi'i means in Islam
The plural is tabi'un or tabi'in. They form the second layer in almost every chain, and figures like Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, al-Hasan al-Basri and Ibn Sirin belong here. Their own statements are called maqtu', and their reports about the Prophet without naming the Companion in between are called mursal.
