The meaning
What Iftar means in Islam
The Prophet hastened it rather than delaying it, and said people remain in good as long as they do so. He broke his fast with fresh dates, or dry dates, or else a drink of water. Feeding a fasting person their iftar is described as earning the same reward as their fast, which is the origin of the communal iftar tables.
