The meaning
What Shahid means in Islam
The word means witness. Where a mutaba'ah props up a particular narrator, a shahid props up the content itself from another direction. Several lightly weak reports with different Companions behind them can together raise a hadith to hasan li-ghayrihi, provided none of them is severely weak.
